It is a fair argument that ultra powerful utility vehicles are utterly pointless and very wasteful. But there is no denying that they are also completely and totally awesome. You get a nice sense of invincibility when you drive a large SUV that is as fast as most sports cars out there.

Because of that, car makers keep making powerful SUVs, and tuners keep making them even more powerful. These are the latest offering from the mad scientists at Brabus. They got hold of the ML63 and GL63, two of the most bonkers utility vehicle in AMG’s range, and went berserk with them.

These cars share the same 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 engine that is tuned at 520 horsepower. AMG themselves offer a performance package on selected models that raise that to 570 horsepower. those figures, although undeniably impressive, are not big enough to phase Brabus. So they gave their versions of the ML and GL a colossal 700 horsepower, plus a ginormous 960 Nm of torque.

Good job these guys aren’t making weapons!

A slight squeeze of right foot in these family tanks unleashes a ferocious power that you, your family, your luggage, and you dogs, from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds. Sadly, the top speed had to be limited to 300 km/h (186 mph). Any faster and tires would explode.

As always, Brabus also bestows upon their monsters a subtle and elegant kit that also helps with the aerodynamics; uprated suspension; powerful brakes; new wheels and tires; and, upon request, a magnificent interior treatment.
