Jay Leno is in Japan these days, apparently to investigate the history of Japanese sports cars! After driving the Datsun 240Z, he goes to Toyota town to check out what’s possibly the most iconic car they have every made. It’s the 1966 Toyota 2000GT convertible, which is rare and also very cool, because is is the very car Sean Connery drove in one of James Bond movies.
This car, or rather its coupe version, is also the great grandfather of the Toyota GT86. The Japanese adopted the Brit’s recipe for making sports car, which is performance through lightness. All their classic sports cars also have a whiff of E-Type Jag about them, which is interesting.
